The OSI Model or the Open System Interconnection Model developed by the International Organization for Standardization is a procedure though which a communication system is sub divided into smaller layers.  Here a lower layer provides service to its upper layer and that upper payer sends its service to the layer above. Here instances request for services from lower layers and the same instances provide service to the layers above.

The OSI Network Model

This model has basically 7 layers. In the OSI Network Model, the communication system is divided into logical layers after determining the functions of the communications. If they have similar functions then they are grouped into one layer. These seven OSI Model layers collectively are known as the OSI 7 layers model.

The OSI seven layers model has the following layers in it:

• Physical Layer - The first layer in the OSI 7 layers model is the physical layer which concerns with electrical signals and cabling. Here it creates a connection between the transmission medium which are wires of usually copper or optical cables and a hosting device. It transfers the bit streams, radio signals or electrical impulses etc across the transmission devices. Basically it is the hardware of the OSI Network Model.

• Session Layer - The fifth layer is responsible for graceful closure of conversations. This layer controls the dialogue and conversations between the computers. It introduces and concludes any connection between the local computer and any other remote computer.
• Presentation Layer - The sixth layer connects the higher layer ‘Application’ with the layer below and creates an independence from any data misrepresentation. Usually when data is encrypted, for example, the presentation layer converts the data into such a form which can be accepted by the layer above.
• Application Layer - This layer is the nearest layer to the end user. This layer identifies the communication patterns and determines resource availability etc. it also identifies and authenticates the users and checks whether privacy has been breached or not. It ensures that the quality of the data does not depreciate.

What is VLookup?

Vlookup happens to be an excel function which is used to look for specific data on the first column of the data table. Once the data has been located it would return the result on the same row with respect to the number of column you have used in the first column. If your list is already sorted, then Vlookup will work to give you the closest match. The VLOOKUP function allows you to get the corresponding value for the given input.

Syntax

VLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,col_index_num,range_lookup)

The range lookup can be true or false, when no information is provided, it automatically assumes as false.
