Facebook is no doubt one of the most widely used social networking platforms available today. With users in the tune of 650 million plus (and counting), no doubt its market leader by its own wit. Unique, effective features and estimated market capitalization of over $ 35 billion, this is by no means a small company. Facebook is just 7 years old (launched in year 04’) and took the netizens by storm.
But the matter of the fact is that Facebook is also one of the most criticized sites ever. Net is filled with gory tales of anguish and resentment among the users and its direct impact on the society. Take a look at the pros and cons as mentioned below

Problems and Help
Addiction
Facebook is said to be a highly addictive Social Platform. In fact a common term used over the net associated with facebook addiction is FAD, which stands for Facebook Addition Disorder. People spend hours altogether on the site with little or no concern of themselves or the people around. Their life kind of revolves around the facebook and they are no longer interested in activities or socializing, the way they used to do before.
A study of Psychologist at the University of Leeds clearly states that a definite relation exists between depression and the time on spent on the social media like Facebook.

Stress and jealousy
People tend to make friends easily on Facebook, but the reality is that they are virtual friends. It’s easy to catch up with old friends (of past) and live life nostalgically. There is nothing wrong about it, but delving too much in past tends to remove one’s attention from present and removes the focus and concentration from the task at hand.
When one comes to know that the person who was back bencher in school and not great academically is doing job in company of top repute or has extremely flourishing business, then people tend to compare their own lives with them. A feeling of jealousy overtakes if by any possibility your own lives are not of that standard. Competition and comparison is healthy but too much of it always tends to create stress and anxiety. Person may start suffering from low self esteem and may experience withdrawal symptoms.
Unable to remove Facebook account
It has been a problem from quite sometime that once an account is created on facebook, it’s never removed (if user want to do this). Only thing, which could happen, is that it can be deactivated at the most. All the contents like snaps, posts, emails are present even after deactivation. So previously user had to manually dig out and remove each and every data item.
But thankfully this is not the scenario now. If user wants, they can remove the account permanent as shown below
Account Removal
Please note that even after removal request, account is not deleted for quite some time (time frame not mentioned!). This is in case user changes his/her mind and wants to undo the delete request.
Little or No customer support
This is biggest problem Facebook users are facing every now and then. There is page on Facebook in the name of support forum, but its only full of concerns. Facebook support personnel reply is seldom and people are helping each other. Self-help is the only option left (if none of your peers help you out) by using Google or any other search engine for that matter. The best guess is that due to high number of users, facebook can’t afford to provide individual support (a bit unconvincing since large number of people means more opportunities in terms of advertising revenue and page hits!)
Troubleshooting and Preventive measures
Keep a tab on the time that one tends to spend online or on facebook. Try to stay away from people who are always in compare and win mode by ignoring them or removing them from friend list. Put a restriction on status updates by sms or text messages since they are much of disturbance than real time updates!
There is certain software such as Net Nanny and K9 Web protection, which can be installed and configured so that a person can keep an account of time spent online or on facebook. Decide upon the daily duration that one needs to spend on Facebook and stick to it. Pay more attention to socializing face-to-face (rather than facebook-to-facebook!) and other physical activities, which put less strain on mind and beneficial for healthy routine. After all the quality of life one lives is more or less in person own hands and getting too obsessed with any activity should be the last thing one should be doing.
