I been trying to use the DTIDATA surface scanner. But since installing and starting it has not detected any drives on my vista portable. Not the boot drive or the 1tb toshiba usb that I need to test. It was mangled by the USPS and I need to now if it sustained internal damage. Can you recommend another Surface Scanner that shares more detailed info than the one built into MS-Vista. I have tried S.M.A.R.T and DiskScanner3.3 they both stalled during the scan and failed to make progress (allowing an hour) before being stopped. Neither "scanner" reported any problems...they just stalled and had to be stopped.
PS. It would be nice to find a scanner that could detect that progress was not being made...say after 5 minutes or so. I have been trying to test this Canvio for two days so far.
