About Antivirus Software
Antivirus is a computer based program that helps you to protect your computer from viruses, spyware and other threats. There are many antivirus software currently present in the market. Here we will discuss the installation and un-installation process of some of them.
Avira Antivirus
This antivirus is developed by a German based software company known as “Avira Operations GmbH & Co. KG”. It has “Luke Filewalker” engine for scanning viruses. There are many versions of Avira Antivirus present in the market. But we will mainly discuss about “Avira AntiVir Personal”. This is a free version of Avira for use in home computers. You can install this software on a PC, running Windows XP, 7 or vista. The set up procedure is more or less same for all the above three operating systems. It has lot of features such as:
- Capable of detecting various types of malware like “Trojans”, ”viruses”, ”Backdoor programs” , “Worms”, ”Root kits” ,etc using advanced heuristic system.
- It has the ability to delete viruses permanently using “Virus Guard” real time feature.
- Capable of “Automatic updating”.
Instead of these all good features, we have to remember that it is a free version antivirus and is not capable of providing complete security of your system. It will not protect your computer from malicious websites as “Web Guard Protection” is not present here. So if you want to protect your computer completely then you can either try “Avira AntiVir Premium” or “Avira Premium Security Suite” (paid versions of Avira).
Installation Procedure
To install “Avira AntiVir Personal” in your computer, follow the below steps:
1. Firstly download the “Setup” file of Avira.
2. Now you will see a file with the name “avira_antivir_personal_en.exe”. Double click the file.
4. Here you will see a “Welcome” screen. To continue, click “Next” button.
5. Now a popup window will display which contains some information about Avira and its features.
6. Here “Accept License Agreement” window will appear. After reading these agreements click on the checkbox that says “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and click the “Next button”.
7. A “Confirmation” window will open now to check that whether you understood the license agreement or not. “I accept that Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus is for private use only and must not be used for any kind of commercial or business purpose.”-click this checkbox and then click “Next” button to proceed further.
8. Now “Choose Installation Type” window will appear. Two options are present here-“Complete” and “Custom”. If you select “Complete”, then all the features of Avira will be installed; and for “Custom” you can select which features of Avira you want to install. If you are a beginner then go with the “complete” and click “Next”.
9. Here a “Registration” window will open. Complete your details like “name”, “address”, etc and click “Next” button.
10. You will see “Result” window if registration was successful. To continue, press “Next”.
11. Now components will start to install in your computer. Please wait sometime until it is over.
12. Installation procedure of Avira is complete. You will see now “Welcome to the Configuration Wizard” screen where you have to provide the basic settings necessary for the smooth functioning of this software. Press the “Next” to continue configuration wizard.
13. “Configure AHeAD” screen will open now. Select “Activate AHeAD heuristics” and “Medium detection level” and click “Next”.
14. “Select extended threat categories” window will open. Click the “Select all” checkbox to protect your system from different categories of threats. Now click “Next” to continue.
15. “Guard start mode” window will open now. Here you have to select the starting mode of this software. Two options are available here-“Normal mode” and “secure start”. Choose any one of them and click “Next”.
16. “System scan” window will open .This recommends you to run a short scan of your system. “Perform short system scan after installation” check this small box to run a scan and press “Next”.
17. “Close configuration” wizard will display .Click on the “Finish” button to close the screen.
18. Avira is ready to use now. Click the “Avira Antivir Control Center” icon and select “scan system now” for scanning your computer.
Uninstallation Procedure
To delete “Avira AntiVir Personal” from your computer, follow the below steps:
1. Open “start” menu and select “Control panel”.
2. Click “Add or Remove programs” and go to “Avira Antivir Personal”. Click “Remove” button to uninstall.
3. A popup window will display. Click “Yes” to start the uninstallation Process.
4. Application removal may take sometime. Now restart your computer to uninstall Avira completely.
